PINK GRAPEFRUIT, GUAVA, BLACK TEA

DANCE THE PAIN AWAY. With intoxicating flavours of Pink Grapefruit, Guava and Black Tea, Jose Ignacio Gomez’s honey processed Caturra has what it takes. When I met José in 2017 and spent an afternoon witnessing some of the most immaculate processing of coffee I have ever seen, all of his coffee was forward contracted. Nothing was available, so essentially I had to get in the queue to secure any of his meticulously produced coffee. His farm of just under 6 hectares is planted mostly with Caturra and Geisha. All coffee is washed or processed in a purposely built washing room, then dried in a large room with many parabolic drying beds (similar to a green house). This ensures the coffee is dried evenly and at the right speed that it arrives to us still tasting fresh with maximum flavour intact.
José is part coffee farmer, part co-op manager, and all round boss. In June 2012, Jose Ignacio, together with other 24 coffee growers in Buesaco, founded the Cooperativa de Cafés Especiales de Nariño with the objective of finding real value for their coffees. I am so excited to have met him and visited the co-op and now even more excited to have his coffee in Melbourne finally.
