Born in Sumatra's Aceh region, this coffee comes from the Pegasing district of Takengon. Managed by Cup of Excellence winner Asman Arianto, the Asman Gayo mill supports small producers from Pantan Musara villages, a community that has rebuilt their lives and farms with a focus on coffee.

Unlike most Sumatran mills, Asman Gayo produces both Washed and Natural coffees, showcasing unique flavors and aromas. Microlots from this mill offer remarkable traceability and exceptional quality, often commanding the highest prices.

Sumatra's humid climate makes Washed coffees rare. Cherries are delivered to the mill, depulped, fermented for up to 36 hours, and then washed. Drying occurs on raised beds, in parabolic dryers, or on tarpaulins, preserving each bean's quality.

Aceh is a vibrant region with coffee grown on volcanic mountains amidst rainforests. The average farm is one hectare, and 80% of producers are women. This area is also home to Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world, contributing to the unique terroir.

This coffee has rich notes of blackberry, date, and stewed peach—a testament to Sumatra's resilient and skilled coffee producers.
